Dear Out of Towners,

We'd be so happy if you can make the trek out to San Francisco!  Its one of our favorite places in the world and we are lucky to call it home.  We encourage you to spend some time exploring not only San Francisco itself, but the enitre bay area.  There is a lot to see and do, ranging from museums to wine tasting to outdoor activities in our beautiful parks and coastlines.

We have booked rooms at group rates at three different hotels-two in SF and one in Emeryville-across the bay bridge, not too far from Treasure Island, where the reception will be held.  Check the hotels page for specific information on our recommendations.

Renting a car is a good way to explore and may offer you the flexibility to see a bit more of the city and surrounding area.  Besides the major rental agencies at the airports, we recommend City Rent-a-Car.  They are affordable and will even pick you up within the city.  www.cityrentacar.com

Here are a couple things that we would recommend seeing while in the bay area:

Golden Gate
You can walk, run, ride a bike, and oh yes, drive too, over the Golden Gate Bridge!
SF MOMA
San Francisco's Museum of Modern Art is one of the best in the world and is housed in a cool building too!

Muir Woods
Muir Woods National Monument is an old-growth redwood grove located just north of the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County. Easy to get to and easy to explore-great for families.

Academy of Sciences
The new California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park is one of the world's most innovative, complete with a planetarium, walk-through rainforest, aquarium, and a living roof. Great for kids and adults both. Beware of crowds, especially on weekends.

Dolores Park
Dolores Park is one of our favorite spots. With a great view of downtown, on a warm day the park attracts picnicers and sunbathers. Great place to dog-watch and people watch too. If you're lucky you may even catch the tamale lady or the creme brulee guy!

Wine Country
Wine Country
Located about an hour away from SF, the wine country is a great escape and a good opportunity to see where all that California wine in the grocery store actually comes from. Try to get off the beaten path in Sonoma-smaller wineries usually offer free tastings and a more personal experience. V. Sattui in Napa offers wine and food as well as picnic grounds to enjoy them.
